Letter to Professor Rieff

A thank-you letter to Samuel E. Rieff, Esq., who taught Crim 203: Criminal Law at QCC over Blackboard during Fall 2020. A classmate and I had planned a cameras-on surprise for the last session as a small show of appreciation. The meeting cut off before we could turn them on, so I wrote this instead. Preserved verbatim.

Dear Professor Rieff,

As we are now approaching the final days of this semester, I would like to bring it upon myself to thank you on behalf of all the students who attended your course Crim 203: Criminal Law, this fall 2020.

Prior to the class session abruptly ending on blackboard this week, me and Alexandra had been planning a surprise for you where we would all turn on the cameras! We thought that it'd be an awesome way of showing our appreciation to you but, unfortunately as mentioned the meeting just ended, and we tried to get in but to no avail..

Regardless, it is very rare for one to have the opportunity of attending an in-person course where a professor is able to display a great sense of humour, inclusion, and yet be able to effectively, and efficiently educate his students. The fact that you were able to do all of the aforementioned during a pandemic, where everything had to transition into remote learning: speaks highly of your character, knowledge, and ability to inter-connect. My only true wish would be that we actually took this course in person. Maybe that is a good enough of a reason to fail this course (insert laughing face)!

To that end, while I do wish that we could've fulfilled our surprise, I hope that this 'letter' will make up for it! We also wish you a great Christmas, and a happy new year!

Sincerely yours,

Victor Kiani
